Why did my light suddenly go out?

Why Light Bulbs Burn Out Over time, the constant surging of electricity through a lightbulb will wear down the filaments on the inside. That is why your lightbulb will suddenly go out, or make a popping sound right after flipping the switch on.

What could cause lights to go out?

Understanding the Problem The cause could be an electrical short. More often, the issue is a blown fuse or tripped circuit caused by excessive electrical current flowing through the wires. The fuse or breaker will automatically cut off the current to prevent the wires from overheating and causing a fire.

What kind of circuit would cause all lights to go out if one light went out?

parallel circuits
In parallel circuits, each light has its own circuit, so all but one light could be burned out, and the last one will still function.

What happens when one bulb in parallel goes out?

If the light bulbs are connected in parallel, the current flowing through the light bulbs combine to form the current flowing in the battery, while the voltage drop is 6.0 V across each bulb and they all glow. One bulb burning out in a series circuit breaks the circuit. Hence, all the other bulbs are switched off.
