Some campsites are in very remote areas. Imagine the damage that could be caused if it takes more than 30 minutes for a fire engine to get to you.

Electrical fires tend to fall into most of the classifications above, because it’s not electricity that is itself burning, but the material that has caught alight because of a faulty electrical current. If it’s safe to do so, then it’s advisable to turn off the electricity before tackling the fire.

What should you know about fire safety in a motorhome?

A motorhome has many flammable devices on board, including fridges, gas cylinders, water heaters and so on. In the event of an emergency, your first priority should be your own personal safety – and you should never put your life at risk.

“Not even dash lights when I turn on the ignition (with 12.7 VDC) suggests either a bad connection between batteries and dash OR a bad IGNITION SOLENOID. Start by verifying voltage at the chassis battery side of the ignition solenoid. Then with key on, that you also have voltage at the “far side” of the ignition solenoid.

What does it mean when your RV won’t start?

The RV won’t start. There are none of the typical dead battery behaviors – no clicking, no lights flickering, nothing. All of my normal dash lights do not come on when I turn the key. Even the radio light is out. When I flip the chassis battery disconnect switch it springs back into the ON position and won’t stay off.
