What does it mean when a light bulb goes out then comes back on?

Many have a thermal shutdown feature that will turn off the LEDs if they get too hot. Once they cool down, the controller allows them to turn on again. This explains why flipping the power does nothing: they are still too hot. Try a lower wattage bulb, a more expensive bulb, or a decorative tungsten bulb.

Why does my light go off and on?

An intermittent problem like this could be caused by a combination of a loose connection and the waste heat from the bulb. As the bulb and light fixture heat up, they expand eventually causing the loose connection to be broken, turning off the light. Turn off power to the fixture at the service panel.

Why does my fluorescent light come back on after I turn it off?

Sometimes if I turn off the switch and wait a few minutes, it will come back on when turning the switch on. It always turns on after being off for several hours. This is the first I have had troubles with the light fixture since getting our house 5 years ago. It seems like a new fixture (i.e. made in the last 10-15 years).

Why do lights come back on after 20mins?

The problem you have is as been highlighted in the other posts the transformer is overheating and cutting out, then as it cools down it resets and the lights come back on again. Its likely that when the lights were new they had either MR16 20watt or MR16 35watt lamps in them.

Why does a LED light bulb turn on and off?

LED emitters proper are very tiny. They must remain cool and are rather sensitive to overheat. Your LED-based light bulb has a big heat sink to remove heat from the emitter proper. Heat moves through a heat sink proportional to the difference in temperature. So as the air around the heat sink gets warmer, the heat sink loses effectiveness.

Why does one light come on and then go out every day?

We have turned off the switch whenever that has happened. But when we turn on the switch the next day, all four lights come on, and then this one light again goes out after a couple of hours. What could be the likely cause?

When does the LED light turn on and off?

The leftmost “1” in the horizontal axis indicates when the lamp was turned on after being off all night. The lamp turned itself off about 30 minutes later, shown by the leftmost zero. The lamp cooled to the point where it turned on again, about 14 minutes later. After another 6.7 minutes, the LED turned off, and so on.

How does an outdoor light turn itself off?

And by the way, it looks like the “reset” interval is actually pretty short — like 10 mins later it was working again (but goes out after 10 seconds), not multiple hours or anything like that. The light is not automatic going on when it gets dark and turning itself off when it’s light…it’s controlled by a switch indoors.
