  3. Lubricate the spring mechanism.
  4. Fix problems with the key.
  5. Repair a lock jammed by a broken key.
  6. Align the deadbolt with the strike plate.

Can a broken key cause a jammed door lock?

Nonetheless, mechanisms filled with gunk, broken keys, rust and misalignment may cause jammed door locks. Depending on the cause, you can fix a jam with just a few minutes and common household items. If you exhaust the list of quick fixes and repairs to no avail, you’ll have to call a locksmith or replace a permanently jammed door lock.

Why does my door lock jam in cold weather?

Cold or damp weather can mess up the door lock mechanism, causing it to jam. Before you blame the weather, make sure you are using the right key. It seems obvious, but it’s an easy mistake to make.
