A fuse tap is a power splitter-type device that slides into an occupied slot in an automotive fuse block to create an additional connection point for slip-on terminals.

If there is not one in there and you need to get one, a 5a (5 AMP) fuse is the most common sized fuse used on dash cams.

Where are the fuses for the dashboard lights?

Check under the hood, under the dashboard, or near or in the glove compartment. Once you find the fuse box or boxes, remove the lid and check the diagram on the underside of the lid for a fuse labeled “dash lights” or just “lights.” Refer to your owner’s manual if you have trouble locating the fuse boxes or the dashboard light fuse.

Your dash cams should come with a long enough wire to make it down the side of your windshield and to your fuse box to have some wire left over.
