Is the magnatek 12 volt power converter OK?
Is the magnatek 12 volt power converter OK?
The battery was OK, the Magnatek higher current 12 volt section was OK but the battery charger section of the converter was not OK. Checking at the Magnatek panel in the bathroom, I found no voltage between point C (which was the positive side from the battery) and point D (which was the negative side from the battery).
Why does the magnatek power converter use solenoid?
This solenoid is energized whenever the trailer is plugged into external AC power and it allows the converter to send charging voltage to the trailer battery. Magnatek chose to use a solenoid to activate a switch to perform this function rather than use a relay. Why? I don’t know.
How does a power converter work on a RV?
PIC #2: The schematic above is the battery charger part of the power converter. It will charge the RV battery but then automatically taper down to a trickle charge so as not to destroy your expensive battery. PIC #3: I included this picture but I’m not absolutely sure of its total accuracy.

How many volts does a Magnetek converter take?
For those not familiar with the differences, a converter takes 120 VAC (volts alternating current – like in your house) from either plugging into shore power or from your generator and “converts” it to 12 VDC (volts direct current — like your car battery). An inverter takes 12 VDC and “inverts” it to 120 VAC.
Is there a way to upgrade your RV’s Magnetek converter?
See our RV Videos! The solution is an upgrade to your old converter to add a three-stage charger. You could replace the entire converter, but the easy solution is one of the upgrades that use the original RV Magnetek converter box and circuit breakers (for the 120 VAC side) yet replace the guts and the fuse board (12 VDC side).

What do I need to upgrade my Magnetek parallax converter?
Kits include the converter/charger, new DC fuse block, two 30 Amp fuses, AC pigtail, 6 AWG DC wires, and all hardware necessary to make the conversion. Simple to install. * If you look at the back of your existing DC fuse block, positions 1-6 are not filtered from the battery because they do not connect to the battery positive lug.
Can a Magnetek converter charge a house battery?
The battery charger for your house battery is built into your converter or your inverter, depending on what the RV manufacturer choose to install. The Magnetek was the choice of many RV manufacturers for years. The problem is that if you have a low battery and plug into shore power that Magnetek can take several days to fully recharge your battery.
