Is it possible for a slide out to break?
Is it possible for a slide out to break?
Of course, in addition to being a great feature, a slide out is also another moving part that has the potential to break down. While modern slide outs are impressively reliable the majority of the time, there still is a chance that yours will give you problems on a trip.
What to do if your slideout does not move?
If your slideout does not move at all when you operate the slideout control switch, and you do not hear the motor or the pump running, then the first thing to check is the switch itself. If you have multiple slideouts, try one of the other switches to see if it is operating.
Why is my slide out not working in my RV?
Before you assume that something has broken or is stuck within the slide out mechanism itself, check to see if you are getting enough power from your battery to run the system. You obviously need sufficient voltage from your battery to make the slide out move properly, so an old or worn out battery may be the underlying problem.
What causes a slide out on a motor?
If the motor runs but the slideout doesn’t move, you may have a hydraulic leak or another hydraulic system issue. A hydraulic system leak can be another cause of slideout problems. The first thing to check is your hydraulic fluid reservoir to ensure there is enough fluid in the system.
What happens when your slide out won’t slide out?
A stubborn slide-out, though, can turn your trip in to a disaster. Either you spend your days climbing over furniture in an attempt to live in an RV with the walls pushed in or you can’t depart for home with a slide-out that refuses to retract for road travel.
What do you need to know about electric slide out?
Simply take the crank handle (through-frame models) or wrench, ratchet or drill with a nut driver (in-frame models) and rotate it clockwise to retract and counterclockwise to extend slide-out. It is important to note that you DO NOT need to attempt to disengage the motor as the actuator is “manual ready” Just hook up and crank.
Can a single pump be used to retract slide outs?
In either instance you will probably find yourself at the mercy of an RV repairman, who may or may not have the parts needed for a quick repair on hand. Also, due to the inherent power of hydraulics, a single pump/motor is often used to extend/retract all slide-outs. When it works, you’re golden.
What to do when slide outs don’t slide in-RVing?
Consult with your owner’s manual to see if there is a way to close the slide out manually when the mechanism that is supposed to handle the job has failed. Most RV’s have some form of manual override to allow you to get back on the road successfully.
