How do you remove a trailer break away?

How do you remove a trailer break away?

If the cable is looped through a safety chain loop on the hitch, you can unplug the cable from the breakaway switch, detach it from the safety chain loop and plug the breakaway pin back in. If a split ring or quick link like part # 750-3204 is used, disconnect the cable from the split ring or quick link.

Is it possible to reset a breakaway switch?

Yes. The way that a breakaway switch such as # HM20010 works is that the pin inside holds two pieces of metal apart. Once pulled out it allows the 2 pieces of metal to touch completing the circuit between the breakaway battery and the trailer brakes. All you would have to do to reset the system is put the pin back into the switch.

Can a surge brake be used on a breakaway switch?

Surge brake systems are not necessarily better. An electric breakaway switch requires an adequate battery mounted on the trailer to apply the brakes. In the event that the trailer becomes uncoupled from the tow vehicle the breakaway switch will apply the trailer brakes.

Do you leave the pin in the break away switch?

That way, if the tow vehicle and trailer ever part company, the brakes will be activated and remain fully applied. It should not be connected through the converter since the converter is only activated with the application of 120-volt AC power. Always leave the pin in the switch.

How does a brake break away switch work?

When the pin is pulled, the circuit closes, allowing voltage to travel to the trailer brakes. One leg of the switch should be wired to the positive terminal of the break away battery, and the other leg tapped into the brake circuit (see provided diagram.) Once you have everything wired as shown in the diagram, the system should work fine for you.
