How do you drive a caravan fridge while driving?

All caravan and gas appliance manufacturers advise you to turn the gas off while travelling for safety. This is more due to having a naked flame running on your van, and associated dangers with entering a service station, than any issues with the fridge itself.

Can a fridge be turned on while driving?

Put your fridge on the coldest setting the night before. If you turn your fridge on to the coldest setting, things will be very cold and remain cold throughout your tip easily. Also, since you will not be driving, you won’t run any risks of operating the refrigerator.

Can a refrigerator be run on 120 Volt while traveling?

The answer is NOT to put a bag of ice in the freezer (or put a fan in the fridge) while traveling. If you don’t want to use LP while traveling (I wouldn’t) and you have a 2-way, you run on 120 volt from the inverter and the vehicle alternator keeps the batteries charged. You don’t buy a $1500 fridge for the privilege of routinely buying ice.

How does a refrigerator work when not plugged in?

The only way they can continue to function when not plugged in is through the use of a generator or through an inverter. An inverter will convert DC power from your batteries into AC power your fridge can use.
