Can a coach battery be charged while driving?

Can a coach battery be charged while driving?

It is plausible to run the generator while driving, but if the alternator is sized properly, both battery systems can be effectively charged while driving. Once you stop for the night, plug the coach into 120-volt AC park power and then the Parallax can top off the house batteries. (The Parallax will not charge the chassis battery).

Why is the battery on my ALINEr not charging?

There will be a slight draw on the batteries from the radio presets and engine CPU for the engine battery, and a draw from the LP leak detector so it’s good to isolate those. My battery on my aliner is not charging after I drive with it all connected to my destination. The battery itself was tested and is chargeable.

What should I do if my RV battery is not charging?

Most of the time you will need to replace the problematic battery. You will need to replace the batteries with a new one or reconditioned 12-Volt RV batteries. Though if you have the time on your hands, you might be able to find a battery technician who can recondition your batteries for a minimal charge.

Where does the charging warning light go on an alternator?

Black and yellow goes from the alternator plug to that generator relay. Blue wire goes from generator relay to that interior harness (C25) which goes to the instrument panel wiring (My 3rd pic the plug on the left) which looks to be for the instrument cluster for the “charging warning light”. Click to expand… Gotcha.

Why does my RV converter not charge the batteries?

If your RV converter not charging batteries when plugged into shore power you need to take a close look at the contact posts of your RV batteries. Sometimes a buildup of greenish or white corrosion can get to a point where the batteries can’t receive a charge or receive a minimal charge.

What should I do if my battery is not charging while driving?

If you’re not getting a proper charging current to the batteries while driving, it will be necessary to evaluate the engine alternator and the battery isolator and all points between the alternator and battery bank. A proper setup will have the alternator output feeding into a dedicated dual battery separator or isolator.

When does an alternator need to charge the battery?

If the battery voltage is more than 13 volt, if the engine RPM is 2000 and if all the function is running smoothly, that means your alternator is pleasingly charging your car battery. Never make your car alternator culprit all time.

What happens if you try to taste the alternator?

Never try to taste the car alternator by starting the car. It could damage your car alternator and other engine parts as well. While checking the alternator, keep away all your jewelry, loose fabric even your hands from any moving parts of your car engine. Why alternator cannot charge the car battery quickly, if the engine is in the idle stage?

Can a lithium battery be charged with an alternator?

With a lithium house battery and lead acid starter battery, a battery combiner between the two batteries will keep them both charged ( ). In a car, the alternator gives around 14V to a 12V battery. There is a “charge controller” on car alternators.

Why is my battery not charging while driving?

Perhaps the new battery is not being adequately charged by the charging system of the truck. It might be worth it to check out the battery and charging system (alternator, voltage regulator, charging solenoid, etc.).

What kind of battery charger does coach RV use?

I have checked the 120VAC to 12VDC inverter that I assume is supposed to charge the coach batteries. It produces 13.5 VDC (with no load) and powers all of the 12V components in the RV. The RV uses an Intellitec battery disconnect system. Inside the door are two switches to disconnect the chassis and coach batteries (see photo below).

Can You charge an RV battery while driving?

No RV Battery Charging While Driving. The house batteries and the engine battery should receive a charge via the alternator on the engine while actually driving. It is plausible to run the generator while driving, but if the alternator is sized properly, both battery systems can be effectively charged while driving.

Why are my coach batteries not being charged?

IF you have good voltage from the alternator something downstream is not allowing the batteries to charge, follow all the wires off the alternator. Most RV’S have a battery isolator or solenoid that will allow the coach and house batteries to charge while driving.

What should the battery voltage be in a coach?

Start the coach and run it at around 1500 Rpm’s and the battery voltage should rise over 14 volts and then should drop down as Rpm’s are decreased, inspect the alternator belt make sure it is snug and not slipping.

Most RV’S have a battery isolator or solenoid that will allow the coach and house batteries to charge while driving. Normally the center post is voltage in from the alternator and another post will be for charging the chassis battery, these can fail.

Where do I Disconnect the coach battery in a RV?

The RV uses an Intellitec battery disconnect system. Inside the door are two switches to disconnect the chassis and coach batteries (see photo below). Also below photos of the Intellic disconnect relays inside the power distribution box that’s in the engine compartment.

What should the battery reading be on a coach?

BOTH BATTERY BANKS SHOULD BE CHARGED BY THE ALTERNATOR. Plugged in not running the Batteries are at 12.58. WITH THAT READING ON THE HOUSE BANK, THAT MEANS YOUR CONVERTER, CHARGER OR INVERTER/CHARGER IS NOT WORKING. SOME COACHES ALSO CHARGE THE CHASSIS BATTERY, BUT MOST DO NOT.

Why does my coach battery go dead when plugged in?

If you can measure an increase in DC voltage at the battery bank when the coach is plugged in, then the battery charge circuit is at least complete and probably working. If the voltage does not go up when plugged in, look for a blown fuse in the charge circuit in the converter/charger.
