Can a car start with no fuel in the carburetor?

It acts like there is no fuel in the carburetor and needs to crank for several (4+) tries before it starts. Once it starts, it will start instantly anytime afterwards until it sits again. The engine is stock except for an HEI distributor (GM). The engine runs great once it’s started.

What to do if your fuel pump won’t start?

Use a circuit tester to check all the electrical connections to the fuel pump. Turn the key to ON. If you see a current, then it is not the pump. If there is no current, check the fuse.

Why does my car not start when I Turn on the gas?

It’s often either an issue with the fuel-pump or that the fuel supply line is clogged up somewhere between the gas tank and the carburetor. Old or unstabilized gas tends to gum up over time and may create a clog.
